Music Therapy with young people

The transition from child to adult can be a difficult time. Young people often become interested in music: identifying with particular styles, lyrics, going to gigs, or simply playing it very loudly by themselves. Where there are learning difficulties, or problems with communication, the challenges for individual young people can be even greater.

Individual or group music therapy sessions with MusicSpace can offer a supportive framework for exploring problems that may be difficult to talk about such as anger, anxiety, feeling withdrawn, bullying, being bullied or being bereaved. Young people do not have to be musical to access music therapy: a willingness to explore and try using music creatively is more important.

Music can be used as a flexible medium for taking a look at self-awareness, expressing feelings and working on specific social skills within a non-judgemental and safe environment.
